2000 years ago over 1000 people worked for 5 years on the construction of the Pont du Gard.
The objective was to bring water to the city of Nîmes via a 50km long aqueduct.Since then people have flocked to marvel at the work: walkers, hikers, lovers, poets, painters...
Some events relative to a rural priest in the end of the XIXth century, the abbot Béranger Saunière, upset the peaceful universe of this village. A museum devoted to the life and the strange activities of Saunière take place now in its house, the villa Béthanie. It gives a glance on the history of the area and replaces Rennes le Chaâteau in its historical context.
